A Jacksonville man who allegedly assisted in the burglary of a Whites Gap Road home last week turned himself into police Monday.
Immanuel Isaiah Holifield, 20, of Jacksonville, is charged with first-degree burglary. He was in the Jacksonville City Jail around 2:30 p.m. Monday with bond set at $60,000, according to Bill Wineman, assistant chief of Jacksonville police.
Wineman said police received an anonymous tip Monday morning about a car with the same Alabama license tag they were searching for, 31TD9, parked at a home in Whites Gap Estates.
Police had earlier Monday issued a statement with Holifield’s photo and information about the car, saying they had a warrant for his arrest on the burglary charge.
Wineman said no one was at the home, which was Holifield’s, when officers confiscated the vehicle. He said the department later received a call from Holifield's father who said he had seen a story on The Star's website that said police were looking for his son.
Wineman said Holifield's father took him to the department’s headquarters, where he turned himself in Monday afternoon.
According to police, Holifield and another man were involved in a burglary that took place in a home on the 900 block of Whites Gap Road on Tuesday morning.
According to witnesses to the burglary, Holifield had been sitting in a tan-colored vehicle in the driveway of the home while another suspect was in the home. When the father-in-law of the homeowner and a friend came to the home to investigate the vehicle, Holifield fled.
According to Wineman, the father-in-law and his friend picked Holifield out of a photo line-up Friday.
Wineman said the other suspect involved in the burglary had not been identified as of Monday afternoon.
