attorney’s said Thursday she is reviewing a Georgia Bureau of Investigation report on the police shooting of a Euharlee teen.
A GBI investigation of another shooting by a police officer — this one in Gordon County — is still underway, according to GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang.
DA Rosemary Greene, who serves both Bartow and Gordon counties, said Thursday she has received the file on the Feb. 14 shooting of Christopher Roupe, 17, at his home at 937 Euharlee Road, Lot 5, in the Eagle View Mobile Home Park.
She said the GBI report is still under wraps and she’s not yet ready to make a statement.
“Our office received the results last week and we are currently reviewing the results,” said Greene. “They are not open to public record yet.”
Euharlee Police Chief Terry Harget said two of his officers were attempting to serve a probation warrant at the address. Roupe, who was not the subject of the warrant, answered the door holding what officers believed to be a gun. One of the officers shot him in the chest and he died later at Cartersville Medical Center.
Cole Law, the Cartersville attorney representing the teen’s family, said Roupe was not holding a weapon, but met officers with a Nintendo WII remote controller.
Greene said she is still waiting for the GBI report on the Feb. 25 police shooting of Steven Cory Key, 21, of Calhoun.
Key was treated and released from Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Calhoun police Lt. Tony Pyle said Thursday Key, who recently spent time in prison, is behind bars in Gordon County Jail with a parole hold.
Key was shot by a Calhoun police officer around 12:45 p.m. on Feb. 25 after he allegedly fled from officers during a traffic stop and then began stabbing himself.
Pyle said Key is facing felony aggravated assault and obstruction charges as well as misdemeanor driving on a suspended license in connection with the incident.
“The aggravated assault charge comes from when he came at the officers with his knife,” added Pyle.
Key was denied bond during a detention hearing for the charges.
Lang said the GBI was still reviewing the shooting Thursday.
