AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of Montevallo freshman Elaine Wood was named the Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week in women's golf for the first time in her career March 13.
Wood is the first member of the Montevallo women's golf team to be named Golfer of the Week since Ashlee Beck earned the honors during the 2011-12 season.
Wood posted a fifth-place finish in individual standings this week at the Hilton Head Lakes Invitational tournament at The Golf Club of Hilton Head Lakes in Hilton Head, S.C. Wood now has the most top five individual finishes of any member of the Montevallo women's golf team with this being her third top-five finish on the year.
Wood helped the Falcons to a third-place finish in team standings in the 18-team tournament, marking the Falcons' fifth top-five finish of the season.
Wood posted a team low 5-over par 77 in the first round of play, followed by a 7-over par 79 in the final round.
The Spanish Fort, Ala. native currently leads her team and is tied for second in the Peach Belt Conference with her 76.7 stroke average.
Wood and her teammates will return to action April 7-8 at the University of West Georgia Invitational tournament.
